Getting Around Orlando
Car Hire
If you are flying into Sanford which is approximately an hours drive from Orlando car hire may be the best option especially if you are traveling independent of a tour operator.
Car hire is recommended if you are planning to stay at Kissimmee or in self catering villas.
If you are intending to base your holiday at Walt Disney World car hire is not be essential as the transportation system links the parks to the hotels.
The public transport from International Drive and Lake Beuna Vista resorts to the theme parks are good so car hire is not essential though may be easier if you have young children and pushchairs in tow.
Taxis
If you are flying into Orlando International a one way taxi to Orlando should be around $50, budget around $100 from Sanford to Orlando. May be worthwhile taking a 10 minute taxi ride to arrive early at the theme park to beat the queues as taxi prices are reasonable.
Mears is the taxi company approved by Walt Disney World (407) 422-2222
Shuttle Buses
Most hotels will have shuttle buses which will transport you to the theme parks. Most shuttle buses are complimentary and some a small charge. Worth checking with the driver before you board to find out how many more hotels he will be stopping at before reaching the park. A 10 minute taxi ride would be preferable to an hour on the free shuttle bus, though you may appreciate the return journey at the end of an exhausting day!
I Ride Trolley
Inexpensive way to travel around the International Drive area ($1.25 per journey, kids under 12 free). Regular service to SeaWorld, Aquatica, Wet ‘n Wild, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, Pointe Orlando and Wonderworks. Change bus at SeaWorld for Lynx bus (50) which will take you to Walt Disney World.
Lynx
The Lynx bus service links Kissimmee, Walt Disney World, International Drive, SeaWorld, and the shopping malls for a standard one way fare of $2 (if you need to transfer buses ask for a transfer ticket). Lynx 50 route travels between SeaWorld and Walt Disney World.
